Frederic Jay Rubin, better known as Rick Rubin, is an influential music producer, currently working as a co-president of the major company Columbia Records. In 1983 he co-founded a pioneering hip-hop label Def Jam Records and five years later launched a second company, American Recordings. He is widely credited as one of the main figures behind the popularization of hip-hop through the 80s. During his lengthy career Rick has worked with a vast number of artists and bands, ranging from hip hop and rock and roll to pop music. Among his clients were Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dixie Chicks, Jay-Z, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Mick Jagger, System of a Down, Lana Del Ray and Adele an many others. Rick was born in New York, in a family of shoe wholesaler and housewife. Both of his parents were Jewish.
